Telecom major Airtel faced widespread network disruptions on Monday evening, leaving thousands of users in Chennai, Kerala, and parts of Tamil Nadu unable to make calls or receive signals.

Social media platforms were flooded with complaints from frustrated users who reported call drops, no network coverage, and VOLTE issues, although mobile data services appeared to function normally.

“Is Airtel calling down in Chennai? VOLTE is unavailable and calls are getting disconnected. Can’t even connect with someone on the same network,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter).

According to outage-tracking website Down Detector, more than 6,800 reports of service issues were logged as of 8:30 PM, with the majority of complaints related to mobile signal loss and voice calling.

In Kerala, users said they were suddenly unable to make calls, with phones showing “no service” despite functioning internet. Several in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode reported a complete blackout of voice services.

A user in Kerala wrote, "Airtel down in Thrissur Kerala."

One user claimed, “Airtel is down all over India, no signal is coming,” though national-scale disruption has not been officially confirmed.

As of now, Airtel has not issued any official statement regarding the outage or its cause.

Later, Airtel confirmed that there were network issues and that it was being rectified.

“We regret to inform that Airtel is currently facing a temporary network disruption in certain areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Our technical teams are diligently working to address the issue and restore services as quickly as possible, “an Airtel spokesperson said.
