Air India has resumed its direct flights between New Delhi and Rome from March 25, 2026, marking the return of a non-stop connection between the two capitals after nearly six years.

The service, operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, will run four times a week, offering improved connectivity for both business and leisure travellers. The flights are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, providing convenient travel options between India and Italy.

According to the airline, the move is part of its broader strategy to strengthen its international network, particularly in Europe. The route had been suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its resumption reflects the steady recovery in global air travel demand.

From March 29 onwards, AI123 will depart Delhi at 13:15 and arrive in Rome at 18:55, while AI122 will depart Rome at 20:50 and arrive in Delhi at 09:00 the following day.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner used on this route is known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. It is configured with 18 Business Class flat-bed seats and 238 Economy Class seats, offering a comfortable experience for long-haul travel.

The resumption of direct flights between Delhi and Rome is expected to strengthen ties between India and Italy, particularly in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Italy is one of India’s key trading partners in Europe, and improved air connectivity is likely to support business travel and economic engagement between the two countries.

Delhi’s position as a major aviation hub also enables passengers travelling from Rome to access multiple destinations across South Asia and Southeast Asia. Cities such as Bangkok, Singapore, Colombo, and Ho Chi Minh City are easily accessible through onward connections.

The new service is also expected to benefit the Indian diaspora living in Italy, providing a more direct and convenient travel option between the two countries. It will make it easier for families to stay connected while also encouraging tourism in both directions.

The Delhi–Rome route is part of Air India’s ongoing expansion in Europe. With this addition, the airline now serves eight destinations across mainland Europe, complementing its strong presence in the United Kingdom and other global markets.

The airline is focusing on leveraging its hub in Delhi to connect passengers across continents, strengthening its position as a global carrier.
