Rotary Club of Bombay launches a film and coffee table book celebrating Indie dogs, urging adoption over shopping

In a profound initiative to spotlight the often-overlooked plight of Indie dogs, the Rotary Club of Bombay launched a powerful two-minute film and a beautifully illustrated coffee table book on June 3.
A short film with a big message
The short film, produced by Nabeel Abbas, Founder and CEO of Epigram, features acclaimed actor Pooja Bhatt, who not only appears on screen but also lends her voice to the narrative. The script was penned by Anushree Kandalkar, and the project was conceived by advertising veteran and animal welfare advocate Ramesh Narayan.
The film poignantly captures the inner thoughts of an Indie dog, expressing a longing for a home:
"What does a home feel like? Warm and cozy on the coldest day... safe enough to sleep comfortably? Will I ever know what it feels like? The only home I've lived in is right here. The streets."
The narrative invites viewers to empathise with the daily struggles of street dogs, highlighting their resilience and the love they have to offer. It also urges people to see them not as strays, but as resilient, loving companions deserving of homes.
'Missy's Musings': A dog's perspective
Complementing the film, a coffee table book titled Missy’s Musings was also unveiled. Designed by Creative Director Dhananjay Khotpal, the book is a vibrant compilation of whimsical and heartfelt social media posts written from the perspective of Missy, Narayan’s adopted Indie dog.
"I wonder why I don't have a home. Is it because I am born on the streets? Is it because I am an Indie? Am I not as loving and caring as a purebred?”
These musings, originally shared under the same title online, have struck a chord with readers who delight in the idea of a “dog that writes.”
As the film concludes, it leaves viewers with a powerful message:
"An Indie is as loving, intelligent, and caring as any other purebred dog, and they have great immunity. Please don't shop; adopt an Indie instead. They deserve a place in your home and your hearts."
By blending storytelling, visual design, and celebrity involvement, the initiative hopes to foster greater empathy and adoption of Indie dogs across the country.
