Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the tragic stampede at a religious event in Hathras, which claimed 121 lives. The arrests were announced during a press briefing on Thursday by Aligarh IG Shalabh Mathur.
The individuals arrested included four men and two women, all of whom were members of the organising committee and served as 'Sevadars' at the event.
"All six persons who have been arrested worked as sevadars (volunteers) at the 'satsang'," Inspector General of Police (Aligarh Range) Shalabh Mathur told reporters here.
IG Mathur stated that a non-bailable warrant would be issued against Devprakash Madhukar, the chief sevadar, and a reward of Rs 1 lakh has been announced for information leading to his arrest. Authorities are currently tracking Madhukar's location.
"A reward of Rs 1 lakh will be announced soon and non-bailable warrant (NBW) will also be issued against key accused Devprakash Madhukar," Mathura said.
He also mentioned that they are investigating the criminal history of the event's preacher, Bhole Baba, clarifying that permission for the event was not taken in his name. The investigation is still underway, and further decisions will be made based on the interrogation of the arrested individuals.
Earlier, District Magistrate Ashish Kumar confirmed that all the victims of the stampede have been identified and their bodies handed over to their families.
Kumar stated that of the three bodies that remained unidentified as of Wednesday, two were identified late at night and the third was identified via a video call on Thursday morning.
