The girl, described by relatives as a bright and focused student, had previously trained at a reputed coaching institute in Delhi before returning home to continue her preparation.
Family members said she was confident about her performance in the examination and had been continuing her studies with the intention of attempting future competitive exams.
The incident reportedly occurred while she was taking an online practice test at home. When she failed to respond after locking herself in her room, her family became concerned and forced the door open.
She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police later completed a post-mortem examination and handed over the body to the family.
Officials confirmed that an unnatural death (UD) case has been registered. Authorities stated that no formal complaint has been filed against any individual so far.
Police also noted that while the student had appeared for NEET, the family’s initial statement did not explicitly mention the examination in their application.
The case has once again highlighted concerns around academic pressure faced by students preparing for competitive examinations in India.
NEET is one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations for medical education, attracting millions of candidates each year. Concerns around academic stress, coaching pressure, and mental health among aspirants have been widely discussed in recent years.
Experts have repeatedly emphasised the importance of counselling support systems, early intervention, and reduced academic pressure for students preparing for high-stakes exams.
