Kasaragod: A drunk man was arrested after attempting to kidnap a two-and-a-half-year-old girl from Kankanady, Mangaluru, thanks to quick action by railway officials.
The incident occurred on the Gandhidham-Nagercoil Express (16335) on Saturday evening. The suspect, 49-year-old Aneesh Kumar from Ernakulam Paravoor, boarded the train’s general coach in the front with the child from Mangaluru. Passengers noticed he was drunk and intoxicated, and reported their concerns to the railway guard. The guard informed the Kasaragod Railway Station Master, who alerted the railway police and Railway Protection Force (RPF).

When the train arrived at Kasaragod at 6:47 a.m., the authorities apprehended Aneesh. The child was calm and did not respond to questions. Aneesh initially claimed he had found her at the station and was taking her to buy food. He later confessed to abducting the child.
The child was taken to the General Hospital for a medical examination, while the Mangaluru police were notified about the abduction. The child was decided to be handed over to the Kasaragod Child Welfare Committee. However, Mangaluru police confirmed that the girl's parents had reported her missing from Kankanady and the parents verified her identity using a photograph. Mangaluru police, Childline workers, and railway officials safely returned the child to her parents around midnight.
Authorities believe she was taken from near her house, which is just 100 metres from the Mangaluru railway station.
