Kozhikode: A complaint has been lodged alleging an attempted child abduction near the Puthiyakadavu beach here in Kozhikode. The incident involved a seven-year-old boy, son of Shajir and Anusha from Beypore. Local residents intervened and detained two individuals from other states, who were later taken into custody by the police.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects attempted to put the child into a sack and carry him away. A man and a woman, both non-Keralites, were taken under custody.
The two, identified as Lakshmi and Sreenivasan, are said to be hailing from Mangaluru.
The child was reportedly speaking to someone near his house when the suspects allegedly grabbed him and tried to stuff him into a sack. Nearby children, who witnessed the incident, said they raised an alarm, prompting the suspects to drop the child and flee. The children also stated that they chased the suspects towards the beach and informed others, following which the public apprehended the duo.
Local residents have demanded strict action against those who attempted to abduct a child from such a densely populated area. The police have launched an investigation.
