New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday arrested the driver accused of fatally hitting 34-year-old biker Sarthak Mattoo in a hit-and-run case that sparked public outrage after the victim's family sought justice through an emotional appeal.

The accused, identified as 30-year-old Apurv Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, was apprehended following an investigation into the June 25 crash near the Rajokri flyover in southwest Delhi.

Police said a PCR call was received that morning reporting that a car had struck a motorcycle, leaving the rider critically injured. Sarthak Mattoo was taken to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre by a PCR team, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The arrest comes after Mattoo's parents released a video accusing the occupants of the SUV of fleeing the scene without helping their son.

His father, Surender Mattoo, alleged that no meaningful progress had been made in the case and also questioned the delay in collecting the accused's blood sample.

Investigators said the Karnataka-registered Mahindra Thar involved in the crash belongs to a Bengaluru-based private company and had been leased to Sagar Saha.

During questioning, Saha allegedly told police that his friend, Apurv Singh, was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, while he was seated in the front passenger seat.

Sarthak, an employee of a Gurugram-based event management company, was travelling from Gurugram to Noida for work when the SUV allegedly rammed into his motorcycle at around 6.30 am.

Police have seized the vehicle and said further investigation into the case is underway.
