Thrissur, Kerala: Kerala Police have arrested notorious interstate burglar ‘Spider Sabu’, who is allegedly involved in several theft cases across different districts. Sabu is reportedly an accused in 13 criminal cases and has been linked to around a dozen theft cases in various districts.

The accused was arrested around 11 pm on Sunday while allegedly attempting to break into a vacant house in Kodungallur.

According to police, targeting unoccupied houses is Sabu’s usual modus operandi. He allegedly attempted to rob the locked house of local resident Rajeev after breaking the glass of a rear window to gain entry.

However, the house was equipped with a CCTV camera, and the owner noticed the intruder through the live footage on his mobile phone. He immediately alerted the police.

A team from the Kodungallur police station reached the spot soon after receiving the information. As the main gate of the house was locked, the police entered the premises by climbing over the compound wall.

After noticing a light on the upper floor, the police suspected that the burglar was still inside and carefully surrounded the house.

Police said Sabu usually plans escape routes in advance before carrying out thefts from vacant houses. Anticipating that he might try to flee through one of several routes, the police blocked possible exit points before moving in to apprehend him.

The police also recovered the cash and jewellery allegedly stolen from the house from the accused.

Sabu has been taken into custody and formally arrested. Police said he will be produced before a court soon.
