Southern Railway has opened the first railway coach restaurant in the Madurai division at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. The new attraction offers visitors a unique dining experience inside a refurbished railway coach, combining travel heritage with modern hospitality.

The facility was inaugurated on Friday by Madurai Railway Division Divisional Railway Manager Omprakash Meena. Railway officials said the initiative aims to enhance station amenities while creating a new attraction for both passengers and tourists visiting the temple town.

Following the launch in Rameswaram, Southern Railway plans to introduce similar railway coach restaurants at Kovilpatti and Palani in the coming months.

Meanwhile, redevelopment works at Rameswaram railway station are under review and are expected to be completed by the end of July or in the first week of August. The official inauguration date of the upgraded station will be announced later.
