Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, was immersed in vibrant celebrations on Saturday as a massive wave of devotion marked the spring festival of Sarhul. The city resonated with the rhythmic beats of drums and traditional instruments as devotees gathered in large numbers to honour nature.

At the heart of the celebrations was the sacred Sal, or Sakhua tree, which was worshipped with deep reverence. Devotees also offered water to Maa Sarna, reflecting their spiritual connection with nature and ancestral traditions.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited the central Sarna site at Sirmatoli during the festivities, where he performed rituals in accordance with traditional customs. He also offered prayers for the prosperity and well-being of the state. His wife and MLA, Kalpana Soren, was present alongside him during the ceremony.

Sarhul, widely celebrated across Jharkhand and neighbouring regions, holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for tribal communities. The festival symbolises the worship of nature and the earth, marking the arrival of spring and new beginnings with the blossoming of the Sal tree, while expressing gratitude towards nature.
