Muharram is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered one of the holiest periods in Islam. Observed by Muslims across the world, it carries deep religious and spiritual significance and is especially important for Shia Muslims as a time of mourning, reflection and devotion.
The month commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, during the Battle of Karbala.
