Republic Day 2026: President Murmu’s ‘At home’ invite showcases crafts of north-east India
President Droupadi Murmu’s Republic Day ‘At Home’ invitation, designed by the National Institute of Design, highlights the cultural heritage of North-East India
The Republic Day "At Home" reception, which President Droupadi Murmu will host, has a specially designed invitation that is gaining attention for its celebration of India's northeastern heritage.
The distinctive invitation, created by the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, showcases the rich cultural customs and artistic diversity of the Northeast. On the evening of January 26, after the Republic Day parade, Rashtrapati Bhavan will host the "At Home" reception.
These handcrafted invitations were made by over 350 artisans. The project's strong participation of women artisans from the northeastern states, which highlights both craftsmanship and women's empowerment, is a major highlight, according to the Director of NID.
Each invitation features unique crafts from various states in the area, demonstrating the complex abilities and rich cultural heritage of North-East India.
Special guests invited by President Murmu to the Republic Day "At Home" reception will receive the invitations.
