Tel Aviv: A light-hearted “saffron moment” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stole the spotlight as Modi arrived in Israel for his second State visit in nine years.

Soon after Air India One touched down at Ben Gurion Airport, Modi was greeted on the tarmac by Netanyahu. The two leaders exchanged a warm hug before engaging in a brief conversation that has since gone viral on social media.

During their exchange, Netanyahu pointed toward his wife, Sara Netanyahu, and remarked to Modi, “See what she wore?”

The comment referred to Sara Netanyahu’s orange outfit that closely matched the saffron pocket square worn by the Indian Prime Minister.

The colour coordination did not go unnoticed online, particularly because saffron is widely associated with India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by PM Modi.

The brief interaction has since been widely shared online, becoming one of the most talked-about visuals from Modi’s arrival in Israel.

PM Modi’s visit marks a significant moment in India–Israel relations. He is scheduled to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog and will become the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Knesset.
