Senior Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has dismissed allegations that his party "back-stabbed" the DMK by pivoting to support Vijay’s TVK, though he admitted the separation could have been handled with more "nuance."

Speaking on the shifting political sands, Chidambaram maintained that the decision was a response to a clear public mandate for Vijay’s leadership. "I continue to respect the DMK... but the people’s mandate in this election was clear," he stated, attributing the move to political pragmatism rather than malice.

He further suggested the AIADMK is currently facing an "existential crisis" due to leadership failures under Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Looking forward, the MP expressed an appetite for governance, noting that the Congress would welcome ministerial roles in a new cabinet—a significant prospect for the party after decades on the sidelines. He concluded that while communication lapses occurred, the alliance shift was a necessity of the current results.
