Elephant safaris have returned to Rajaji National Park after seven years
Dehradun: Tourists visiting Rajaji National Park can once again enjoy the charm of elephant safaris, which returned on November 24 after nearly seven years.
The popular attraction was suspended in 2018 following a Uttarakhand High Court order that restricted the commercial use of elephants. The ban was later lifted by the Supreme Court in January 2019, clearing the way for the revival of the rides.
Park authorities have now introduced two exclusive safari routes, designed to offer visitors a slow, immersive way to experience the forest. Officials say the elevated vantage point and unhurried pace of an elephant safari allow tourists to observe wildlife more closely and connect deeply with the park’s lush landscape.
Forest officers added that the initiative promotes ecotourism, noting that elephant safaris are quieter and less polluting than jeep safaris, helping conserve the park’s fragile environment.
