Panamkuzhy Eco Tourism Centre in Perumbavoor has launched traditional coracle boat rides on the Periyar River. The new attraction aims to boost Kerala eco tourism by offering visitors scenic river experiences and nature trails.

Perumbavoor: The popular Panamkuzhy Eco Tourism Centre on the banks of the Periyar River is set to introduce an exciting new attraction, traditional coracle boat rides, offering visitors a fresh way to experience Kerala’s scenic river landscapes.
The new boating activity will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday at 11:30 am by Minister AK Saseendran, who will also launch several development projects implemented through the State Department’s Forest Development Agency.
A total of 10 licensed coracle boats have been arranged at the eco tourism centre for visitors. The boats will be operated by trained personnel certified by the National Institute of Water Sports, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for tourists.
Each ride will last around 30 minutes and can accommodate four people at a time. The ticket price has been fixed at ₹600 per ride, and visitors purchasing the boating ticket will not have to pay the usual ₹50 entry fee to the eco tourism centre.
The coracle ride has been designed to allow visitors to enjoy stunning views of Vempuram Island, which is near the eco tourism zone. Located about four kilometres from the wildlife sanctuary.
Until now, the main attractions at the site included peaceful walks among centuries-old mahogany trees and safe river bathing facilities. With the addition of boating, officials expect an increase in tourist footfall.
The eco tourism centre is situated on the route connecting the Kodanad-Kaprikkad (Abhayaranyam) Wildlife Sanctuary and Paniyeli Poru, making it a convenient stop for travellers exploring the region.
