Rajasthan's date palm farming has reached a historic milestone with the first-ever export of more than 11 tonnes of fresh dates from Bikaner to Bangladesh. The shipment was made by Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University (SKRAU), under the ICAR All India Coordinated Research Project on Arid Fruits, and mainly featured the premium Halawi variety.

Officials said the superior quality of Bikaner's dates has created strong demand in both domestic and international markets. The export generated nearly ₹10 lakh in revenue for the university, marking a major achievement for Rajasthan's agricultural sector.

SKRAU Vice Chancellor Dr Rajendra Babu said the success demonstrates the immense potential of date palm cultivation in Rajasthan's arid climate. Date farming now covers around 350 hectares in Bikaner district, with more farmers adopting the crop.

Supported by government initiatives and university research, the export is expected to boost farmer incomes, expand India's fresh date exports and strengthen Rajasthan's position in international agricultural markets.
