E-rickshaw drivers in Delhi-NCR are raising alarm over a smartphone app that allegedly allows users to remotely disable their vehicles while they are on the road. Drivers say their e-rickshaws suddenly stop during trips, forcing passengers to leave without paying and causing major financial losses. Some claim unknown individuals first scan or note down vehicle details before locking the battery remotely. According to drivers, only newer e-rickshaws equipped with Bluetooth-enabled battery management systems are affected, while older models remain safe. The issue gained attention after videos surfaced online allegedly showing people using Chinese battery-monitoring apps to shut down vehicles as a prank. These apps were originally designed to monitor lithium batteries through Bluetooth but are now suspected of being misused. Responding to the complaints, the government has identified three such applications and ordered their removal from app stores while further action is being taken.
