
On Gandhi Jayanti, India’s renowned calligrapher GV Sreekumar honoured Mahatma Gandhi with a beautiful calligraphic tribute. His creation featured one of Gandhi’s favourite bhajans, "Vaishnava Jana To," a devotional song that holds deep significance in Indian history.
A large group of talented calligraphers joined the event, showcasing their skills to honour the great leader.
The bhajan, "Vaishnava Jana To," written by 15th-century poet Narsinh Mehta, speaks of the values and qualities that embody a good human being. This bhajan became especially popular during Gandhi’s time, frequently sung at his Sabarmati Ashram, symbolising his ideals of peace and compassion.
Some of the country’s finest calligraphers participated in this tribute, including Achyut Palav, Manoj Gopinath, Aman Roopesh Xaxa, Mehmood Ahmed Shaikh, Amrita Amodkar, Narayana Bhattathiri, Dhananjay Goregaonkar, Navakant Karide, Dilbag Singh, Sauhardya Kundu, Dr. Yogendra Velicharia, Pooja Gaidhani, Gopal Patel, Rupali Thombare, Tarun Deep Girdher, Manisha Nayak, G. Harikumar, and G.V. Sreekumar himself.
Together, they brought life to the words of this timeless bhajan through their artistry.
GV Sreekumar will also be sharing his expertise at the upcoming second edition of the International Calligraphy Festival of Kerala. Scheduled to begin on October 2 in Kochi, this event will celebrate the art of calligraphy, offering workshops and showcasing the best talents.
