Babu Patti, the ancestral village of megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Pratapgarh district, has been adopted for development under the government’s ‘Matribhoomi Yojana’. The Maharashtra-based Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan Prabodhan Pratishthan has pledged ₹1 crore for the project-

The initiative received official approval after the organisation’s president, Nivrutti Yadav, submitted a detailed proposal to the District Panchayat Raj Officer. District Magistrate Shiv Sahay Awasthi subsequently cleared the plan, paving the way for the first phase of development.

Under the proposal, the first instalment of ₹1 crore will be utilised to upgrade key facilities in the village. Planned works include the construction of entrance gates, concrete roads, a clean drinking water system, solar-powered street lights, cultural complexes, public sanitation blocks, and public parks. An ambulance facility and a dedicated square named after renowned poet Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan are also part of the blueprint.

The project further envisions the construction of individual household toilets, bus shelters, bank customer service centres, secondary and junior schools, library renovations, and extensive tree plantation drives.

According to the organisation, the adopter will fund 60% of the total expenditure under this scheme, with the state government covering the remaining 40%. Additionally, plaques with the names of the adopter's ancestors will be installed on all projects.
