Matt Damon's stunt double in The Odyssey was a woman? Meet Devyn Dalton

Matt Damon's muscular transformation in Christopher Nolan's ‘The Odyssey’ has become one of the film's biggest talking points, but the Oscar-winning actor says some of the most memorable shots belonged to someone else — his female stunt double, Devyn Dalton.

Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Damon revealed that Canadian stunt performer Dalton doubled for him during the film's Laestrygonians sequence, where forced perspective was used to make giant cannibals tower over Odysseus.

"My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I've ever seen," Damon said.

He explained that the scene required performers of dramatically different heights to create the illusion.

"When we did the forced perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians... there were these stuntmen who were all seven feet and then they got stunt performers who were under five feet. My double was a woman."

The actor also recalled meeting Dalton for the first time on set and thanking her for her work.

"When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in."

While Damon joked that "almost 100%" of the arm shots in the film were his own, he admitted that the scenes showing giants looming over Odysseus featured Dalton.

"There are those shots where you see these giants looming over me — that's her. It was almost 100% my arms in the movie, but you've got to give it up where it's due."

Who is Devyn Dalton?

Devyn Dalton is a Canadian actor, dancer and stunt performer with an extensive career spanning motion capture, stunt work and voice acting. The 34-year-old performer is around 21 years younger than Damon and more than a foot shorter than the 55-year-old actor, making her an ideal choice for the forced-perspective scenes in ‘The Odyssey’.

Dalton began acting and dancing at a young age after being scouted by a talent agent in her hometown of Edmonton before moving into Vancouver's film industry.

According to IMDb, she made her feature film debut in ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, where she performed two lead live-action roles. The film launched her career in motion capture, allowing her to work alongside industry veterans Andy Serkis and Terry Notary. She later returned to the franchise in ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, portraying Cornelius.

Her acting credits also include Nickelodeon's ‘A Fairly Odd Christmas’, where she starred opposite Drake Bell and Daniella Monet, and ‘Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library’. Dalton has described working with director Steven Spielberg on ‘The BFG’ as one of the most rewarding experiences of her career.

As a stunt performer, Dalton has worked on major productions including ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’, ‘Godzilla’, ‘Arrow’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘The X-Files’, ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’, ‘Wonder’, ‘Legion’, ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, ‘Skyscraper’ and ‘The Predator’. She has also lent her voice to animated productions including ‘Barbie's Rock N' Royal’, ‘Beyblade Burst’ and ‘My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic’.

More recently, Dalton portrayed Cosmo in ‘The Electric State’, reuniting with actress Millie Bobby Brown, whom she had previously worked with as a stunt double. She is also expected to appear in ‘Thunderbolts’ and the upcoming season of ‘The Last of Us’.

Following ‘The Odyssey's theatrical release on July 17, Dalton shared behind-the-scenes photographs and clips from the production on Instagram.
