The actor recalls the moments after the attack, revealing how close he came to permanent disability and why the experience left him profoundly grateful.

Actor Saif Ali Khan has said that surviving the knife attack earlier this year, during which he sustained injuries dangerously close to his spinal cord and temporarily lost sensation in his leg, did not fundamentally change his outlook on life, but left him deeply grateful after narrowly escaping paralysis.
The actor made the remarks during an interview with Anupama Chopra for The Hollywood Reporter India on December 15, when he was asked whether the violent incident altered him at a core level. Saif said he has long been aware of life’s fragility and did not experience any sudden epiphany following the attack.
Drawing parallels with the Covid-19 period, Saif noted that he had been asked similar questions in the past about whether major crises had reshaped his worldview. “I can’t say I’ve had an epiphany,” he said, adding that the incident did not make him see something he had not already understood.
However, the actor acknowledged that the experience reinforced his sense of gratitude. He revealed that the knife injury had nicked close to his spinal cord, raising fears of permanent paralysis. For a period, he also lost feeling in his leg, making the possibility of long-term disability a real concern.
“The concept of being bedridden forever or being paralysed is frightening,” Saif said, adding that walking away without lasting damage made him feel “incredibly lucky and blessed.” He explained that while gratitude has always been central to his outlook, the incident accentuated that feeling rather than transforming him entirely.
About the Knife Attack
Saif Ali Khan was injured in a knife attack in the early hours of January 16, 2025, during a violent altercation at his Bandra residence in Mumbai. The actor was rushed for medical treatment after sustaining stab injuries, with doctors later confirming that the blade had nicked close to his spinal cord, raising serious concerns about possible paralysis.
Saif also temporarily lost sensation in one of his legs, intensifying fears of long-term neurological damage. He eventually recovered without permanent impairment and later resumed work, describing his survival as a matter of sheer luck.
Professional Front:
On the work front, Saif Ali Khan has remained busy with a mix of high-profile releases and promising projects. In 2024, he appeared as Bhaira in the action drama 'Devara: Part 1'’=, a Telugu-Hindi multilingual that drew significant box office attention.

Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, Saif is lined up for roles in other major projects, including the Priyadarshan-directed thriller 'Haiwaan' with Akshay Kumar and regional cinema ventures like 'Devara: Part 2', keeping him firmly on the industry’s radar as one of Bollywood’s versatile performers.
