Months after an HD leak and a prolonged certification battle, ‘Jana Nayagan’ is ready for release but producer says audiences will see a changed version with new modifications.

After months of delays, certification hurdles, and a high-profile online leak, Vijay's ‘Jana Nayagan’ is finally set to hit theatres on July 23. But according to producer K Venkata Narayana, audiences won't be watching the same film that was originally completed.
Speaking to NDTV, the producer revealed that the film has undergone several modifications and additions since the leak earlier this year.

"There are a lot of modifications and additions to the film. What audiences are going to experience in theatres will be very different, with additions of some songs, some changes and everything," he said, adding that he did not want to reveal too much and spoil the surprises.
He acknowledged that ‘Jana Nayagan’ has faced multiple challenges since the beginning of the year but said the team has worked through them to bring a refreshed version to theatres.
Certification delays and CBFC changes
Directed by H Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ was originally scheduled for a Pongal release in January but remained stuck for nearly seven months due to issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The film was referred from the examining committee to the revising committee after objections were raised during certification. The CBFC reportedly sought several changes, including the removal of references to TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) and Dr BR Ambedkar.
Despite the revisions, the film ultimately received an A certificate, clearing the way for its theatrical release.
HD leak forced unexpected changes
The film's troubles didn't end with certification. In April, ‘Jana Nayagan’ was leaked online in high-definition quality, allowing it to circulate widely before the makers were able to remove the pirated copies. The leak led to multiple arrests, but by then the film had already been downloaded and viewed numerous times.
While the makers have never officially confirmed that the changes were made solely because of the leak, the producer's comments suggest that audiences will now see a substantially updated version compared to what surfaced online.
A social drama with Vijay's final performance
Venkata Narayana also described ‘Jana Nayagan’ as a film built around a strong social issue, saying its story is designed to appeal to audiences across age groups.
The film is directed by H Vinoth and is an adaptation of the Telugu film ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’. The cast includes Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in key roles.
Advance bookings have already opened in several overseas markets, while full-scale ticket sales in India are expected to begin shortly.
‘Jana Nayagan’ also carries special significance as Vijay's final film before his full-time transition into politics.
