Veteran actor Srikanth, a prominent figure in South Indian cinema for over two decades, recently shared intriguing behind-the-scenes stories from his time working on the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, titled Nanban. In a media interaction, Srikanth revealed surprising details about the film’s production.

Srikanth played a pivotal role in Nanban, the Tamil version of the Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots, which was originally portrayed by Madhavan in the Hindi version.

During an interview with Touring Talkies, Srikanth reminisced about his experience on the Nanban set, recalling that he was one of the last actors to join the cast. While excited to be part of such a major project, he also described a tense moment when he arrived on set and witnessed a fallout between the film's director, Shankar, and the lead actor, Vijay.

According to Srikanth, the conflict was sparked by a disagreement over Vijay's hairstyle, which led to a brief fallout between the actor and director. “When I arrived on set, I went straight to meet Shankar sir. As I was heading towards him, I saw Vijay sir leaving in a hurry. I smiled at him, but he didn’t acknowledge me. Later, I found out that there had been an issue between Vijay sir and Shankar sir, and it was related to Vijay’s hairstyle,” Srikanth recalled.

Srikanth went on to explain that, due to the disagreement, Vijay briefly left the set, and the team considered replacing him with either Mahesh Babu or Suriya, who had both initially been considered for the role. “There were talks about replacing Vijay sir with Mahesh Babu or Suriya, who were both considered for the role. But thankfully, things were resolved, and I was able to join the film,” Srikanth shared.

The actor admitted that by the time Nanban came his way, he had already given up on five other projects. Had Nanban fallen through, it would have been a significant loss for him. Fortunately, the film went on to become a massive success, and Srikanth was able to complete his role alongside Vijay and the rest of the cast.

Srikanth’s candid recounting of these behind-the-scenes moments sheds light on the challenges actors face, even on successful projects. Directed by Shankar, Nanban became a major hit, and Srikanth's involvement in it remains one of the key highlights of his career. (With inputs from Agencies)
