Rumours claiming that Aamir Khan's ‘3 Idiots’ would return to theatres on September 4 have been officially denied by Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films.

In a statement, the production house clarified that reports of the film's re-release are "false and factually incorrect."

It urged media outlets and fans to rely only on announcements made through its verified official channels and requested publications to avoid circulating unverified information.

The clarification comes after social media posts and media reports suggested that the 2009 blockbuster was set for a theatrical re-release later this year.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, ‘3 Idiots’ starred Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Boman Irani. Released in 2009, the coming-of-age comedy-drama follows three engineering students navigating friendship, academic pressure and life after college. The film went on to become one of Bollywood's biggest commercial and critical successes.

Separately, Aamir Khan recently addressed another long-standing claim about the film during a Q&A session at the British Film Institute (BFI). Responding to suggestions that his character Rancho was inspired by education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, the actor said the theory was incorrect.

"I didn't know about Mr Sonam at that time when we were doing the film," Aamir said, adding that neither director Rajkumar Hirani nor writer Abhijat Joshi was aware of Wangchuk while developing the story.

He also expressed concern for Wangchuk's health during his fast, saying he hoped it would end safely.
