Reports indicate that Vijay’s legal team requested permission for appearance through video call, which was accepted by the court. Sangeetha’s side also agreed to the arrangement.
Divorce petition details
Sangeetha Sornalingam filed for divorce in December 2025. In her petition, she has reportedly alleged extramarital involvement and cited mental cruelty, neglect, and emotional distress as reasons for seeking separation.
She has also sought legal separation along with residence rights and permanent alimony.
Background of the relationship
Vijay and Sangeetha were married in 1999 in Chennai after meeting in the mid-1990s. The couple has two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha. While Vijay remained one of Tamil cinema’s leading stars, Sangeetha largely stayed away from the public spotlight.
With Vijay’s increasing political presence through his party TVK, the case has attracted wider public attention. The matter, which was earlier considered private, is now being closely followed due to his public and political profile.
The court has asked both parties to be present at the next hearing, with further proceedings expected in June.
