Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has confirmed that there will be no sequel to the pan-Indian action film Marco, which garnered massive attention upon release. Responding to a fan’s comment on Instagram, the actor revealed that he has dropped plans for Marco 2 due to the overwhelming negativity surrounding the project.
“There’s a lot of negativity around Marco. I’ll try to return with something bigger and better,” Unni wrote, replying to a Hindi comment asking, “When is Marco 2 coming?”
The update came under a fitness transformation reel shared by the actor on his Instagram handle.
"Bro, apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I'll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers," he wrote.
Touted as one of the most violent Indian films ever made, Marco had entered the ₹100 crore club at the box office but faced severe criticism after its OTT release on Sony LIV. Viewers raised concerns over the excessive violence and intensity portrayed in the film.
Directed by Haneef Adeni and produced by Shareef Muhammed under the banner of Cubes Entertainment, Marco featured a massive cast including Siddique, Jagadish, Anson Paul, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu Thilakan and several Bollywood actors and newcomers alongside Unni Mukundan in the lead.
