Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has come forward to defend Malayalam film 'Marco', starring Unni Mukundan that has drawn attention due to its intense violence. While the film has performed well at the box office, it has also sparked controversy, especially following the Central Board of Film Certification's decision to block the film from television, citing its graphic violence.

Now, actor-director Prithviraj has responded to the backlash, offering his perspective on the film's graphic content.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Prithviraj who came to promote his upcoming film L2 Empuraan, was asked about the violence in contemporary films, particularly in Marco, which had been widely discussed for its brutal action sequences. Responding to the criticism, Prithviraj said, “I disagree with people having a problem with a film like Marco because it never pretended to be anything else. Unni is a friend. From the time they were set to make the film, the first announcement itself was violence. They kept saying it’s a slasher film on steroids...that’s what they kept saying. They never fooled you into thinking it was something else. They marketed it as the most violent film, and then you go watch it and complain about the violence.”

Mohanlal also shared his thoughts on the topic, clarifying that it's not the presence of violence, but how it fits into the narrative. "It is not the violence. It’s the situation. If the situation demands that kind of bloodshed, it’s fine. But you have to justify it. Otherwise, we will have a difference in opinion," Mohanlal remarked.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj's upcoming film L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal is set to release on March 27, and early buzz suggests it is already breaking records, with advance bookings showing strong demand. As Prithviraj's next major project, Empuraan is expected to continue the conversation around violence in cinema, but with a different kind of narrative approach.
