The actress also addressed being labelled “kulastree” — a word some use mockingly to describe women who embrace conventional roles

Actress Swasika has sparked a flurry of online reactions after candidly sharing that one of her main reasons for getting married was her love for wearing sindoor. In a recent interview with Ginger Media, the actress said, “I got married just to wear sindoor.”
Swasika, who is known for her outspoken views, said she takes joy in wearing the thali (mangalsutra) and applying sindoor across her forehead — not out of obligation, but because it makes her feel happy and connected to her culture.
“I may not wear it with every outfit, but when I wear a sari, I definitely apply sindoor. Even at home in the mornings, I wear it because I love it,” she said. She added that her preferences, including traditional practices like touching her husband’s feet, are not for show or social approval — but rooted in genuine admiration for family life.
The actress also addressed being labelled “kulastree” — a word some use mockingly to describe women who embrace conventional roles. “I take pride in that word,” Swasika said, noting that personal choices should not be judged based on outdated stereotypes.
