Actor-cum-Union Minister Suresh Gopi called on the office bearers who resigned from the AMMA organisation to return and help lead it forward. Speaking at a family gathering, Gopi emphasised that this is not a request but an “order,” urging them to take the organization back to its roots and restore its strong foundation. “Success and good times will introduce you to the world. Failures, bad luck and bad times will introduce the world to you. We are currently in that situation,” said Suresh Gopi.

It may be noted that the executive committee of AMMA was dissolved following serious allegations of sexual abuse made by several women actors against well-known figures in Malayalam cinema, including director Ranjith and actors Siddique and Mukesh. These accusations surfaced after the release of a report by Justice K. Hema, which exposed harassment within the industry. The family gathering of AMMA comes after this.

Suresh Gopi  at the gathering recalled the history of AMMA, which was formed in 1994. He recalled how the organisation was assembled under the guidance of veteran actor Madhu. The organisation, he said, has remained close to the hearts of many due to its impactful activities. He shared his own experience of stepping away from the group for personal reasons but clarified that he never spoke against it. Instead, he supported the organisation from the outside whenever its reputation was at stake.

Suresh Gopi also expressed his desire for actor Mohanlal, who spoke before him, to play a more proactive role. “I hoped Mohanlal would promise us something. I wanted Mohanlal to come here and speak something,” the Minister said, emphasising the need for action. He further addressed the group that had recently won an election within the organisation, stating that if they had brought about positive change during tough times, they should now return to lead AMMA again.

Restoring AMMA’s governance

He stressed that it's time to bring back those who left the organisation, restore its governance, and ensure its continued success. The stage is now set for AMMA to move forward with strong leadership, he affirmed.

Suresh Gopi also reminded the group that AMMA's name was given by Murali, and it should be cherished and pronounced properly. “It is not A.M.M.A. For us, it is Amma,” he added, emphasising the importance of unity within the organisation and standing firm against external influences.
