Kochi: The production company behind last year's successful film RDX, headed by Sophia Paul, has filed a lawsuit demanding Rs 1 crore in compensation from director Nahas Hidhayath.
The company alleges that Nahas breached their agreement by not directing a second film for them despite receiving Rs 40 lakh as advance payment.
RDX marked Nahas's directorial debut and achieved significant box-office success. According to the petition filed in court, Nahas was contractually obligated to direct his next film under the banner of Sophia Paul's production company. However, Nahas claims that he did not sign any contract beyond RDX and has not violated any agreement.
"After the success of RDX, I received a sum of money as promised for the film's success," Nahas told Mathrubhumi.com. "The summons mentions an advance payment of Rs 40 lakh and allegations of defamation against the producer. Which director here receives a Rs 40 lakh advance? I have never defamed the producer," he added.
Nahas further explained that while there was a verbal agreement to collaborate on his next project, no formal contract was signed, and he waited for ten months without progress on the film. "I informed them that I was considering other opportunities, and now they are trying to halt my current project," Nahas alleged.
