The Shri Ramlila Mahasangh has requested the makers of the film Ramayana to arrange a special screening for its representatives before the film releases in theatres. The organisation says the request is aimed at ensuring that the original essence and traditions of the Ramayana remain intact in the big-screen adaptation.

Arjun Kumar, President of the Shri Ramlila Mahasangh, has written to the makers of the film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sunny Deol and Yash. The first part of the two-film epic is scheduled for a theatrical release during Diwali 2026 in India and overseas.

Speaking about the request, Kumar said the Mahasangh's intention is not to interfere with the film but to review whether the portrayal remains faithful to the revered epic.

"If the film is shown to us and we find any scene or aspect objectionable, we will definitely point it out," he said, adding that the organisation's only objective is to ensure that the original spirit and traditions of the Ramayana are not altered.

The request comes after the release of the film's trailer, which offers a glimpse into the ambitious adaptation of the epic.

The trailer opens with Yash's introduction as Ravana, showing him emerging from the shadows before entering his palace and proclaiming his rule over the three worlds. As the story unfolds, Lord Vishnu is reborn on Earth as Prince Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor, while Arun Govil appears as King Dasharatha, introducing Rama to the people of Ayodhya.

It also features key moments from the epic, including Rama and Sita's wedding, with Sai Pallavi portraying Sita, Kaikeyi's wish that sends Rama into a 14-year exile, Lakshmana's journey alongside him, Shurpanakha's appearance, Sita's abduction and the build-up to the climactic battle between the forces of good and evil.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Ravie Dubey, the film also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman. The music has been composed by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman.

Meanwhile, Kumar said preparations for this year's Ramlila celebrations in Delhi have been completed. According to him, the Ramlila will be staged from October 11 to October 21, with the Lav Kush Ramlila Committee putting in place the stage, LED screens, lighting and other technical arrangements for the 2026 edition.

Ramayana: Part 1 is slated to release during Diwali 2026, while Ramayana: Part 2 is expected to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2027.
