Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, the trailer has sparked strong reactions across social media

The makers of Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ have officially unveiled the film's trailer after weeks of anticipation and multiple online leaks. Released across social media on Thursday, July 30, at 4:15 am, the nearly two-minute preview offers audiences their first detailed look at the ambitious retelling of the Hindu epic, led by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.
The trailer sets the tone by introducing Ravana, played by Yash, as a powerful ruler determined to dominate all three worlds. As darkness spreads and chaos takes over, the story shifts to Lord Vishnu's decision to descend to Earth in the form of Ram to restore righteousness and protect humanity.
Ranbir Kapoor makes his first full appearance as Ram, with the trailer showcasing glimpses of his journey from a fearless prince protecting his people to his marriage with Sita, portrayed by Sai Pallavi. Alongside moments of devotion and emotion, the preview also teases large-scale action sequences featuring Ram's battles against evil forces.
Within minutes of its release, the trailer began trending online, with social media users sharing their reactions. While many praised the scale of the visuals and the background score, a large section of fans singled out Yash's portrayal of Ravana, calling him one of the biggest highlights of the trailer.
Several users also appreciated the casting choices, with one fan even describing Yash's casting as the "greatest of all time."
Star-studded cast
Apart from Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the film features an ensemble cast bringing some of the Ramayana's most iconic characters to the screen.
Yash takes on the role of Ravana, while Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman, Ram's loyal brother. Sunny Deol appears as Lord Hanuman, one of the epic's most celebrated warriors and Ram's devoted ally.
Veteran actor Arun Govil, remembered by generations for portraying Ram on television, returns to the world of the Ramayana in a new role as King Dasharath, the ruler of Ayodhya and Ram's father. Lara Dutta essays Queen Kaikeyi.
Kajal Aggarwal has been cast as Mandodari, Ravana's queen, while Rakul Preet Singh plays Surpanakha, Ravana's sister whose encounter with Ram and Lakshman becomes one of the story's defining moments.
Anupam Kher rounds out the cast as Jatayu, the noble vulture king who sacrifices himself while trying to rescue Sita.
Produced by Namit Malhotra, ‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is scheduled to release in theatres during Diwali 2026, with Part 2 set to arrive during Diwali 2027.
