Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
After having worked as an assistant director, Karan marked his directorial debut with ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ in 1998, starring Shah Rukh, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in the leading roles. A romantic drama, the film’s story was also written by Karan and was re-released in cinema halls in October 2023, upon the film’s 25th anniversary. From iconic dialogues to songs and fashion, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ became a fan favourite in no time and eventually gained the status of a cult classic love story of the ‘90s.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
After the success of his debut directorial, Karan decided to star SRK in his second venture, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Featuring an ensemble cast comprising Shah Rukh, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, K3G is truly a family entertainer that is loved to date. A huge critical and commercial success, K3G was one of the most expensive films made during that time.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna
‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is a film that talks about extramarital affairs and dysfunctional relationships. Released in 2006, it starred Shah Rukh, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, and Abhishek Bachchan, with Amitabh Bachchan and Kirron Kher in supporting roles. Despite the delicate themes, KANK turned out to be a film written and made so beautifully. Other than its story and performances, it was also loved for its music.
My Name Is Khan
One of the finest and critically acclaimed collaborations of SRK and KJo remains ‘My Name Is Khan.’ A film that is set in the aftermath of the deadly 9/11 attack in the United States of America, it’s a story of Rizwan (Shah Rukh), who sets out on a journey to meet the US President. The film beautifully highlighted the Islamophobic discrimination that the US witnessed after the attacks. Both Karan and Shah Rukh won multiple awards for Best Director and Best Actor, respectively.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Although the film featured Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Fawad Khan, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ has an unforgettable cameo by SRK, which made us add this film to the list of the duo’s iconic works. Shah Rukh played the role of Tahir, Saba's (Aishwarya) former husband. While he was in a guest appearance, his dialogue on one-sided love continued to remain in the hearts of people. In a scene with Ranbir, he goes on to define one-sided love as “ek tarfa pyaar ki taaqat hi kuch aur hoti hai.. Aur rishton ki tarah do logon mein nahi bantti.. Sirf mera haq hai ispe, sirf mera..”
