Kochi: In her response to the complaint filed with the police, Sandra Thomas accused B Unnikrishnan and others of attempting to remove her from the Malayalam film industry and said he publicly stated that he would never give her a chance to work again.

Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Sandra Thomas expressed her resistance, questioning whether B Unnikrishnan would dare to say such things on a man’s face. She also shared that it’s disheartening to have to file complaints and fight for her place in the industry. Sandra has been vocal about the mental toll she has faced for more than a decade, saying that this latest case is a culmination of years of mental torture and attempts to intimidate her.

Expulsion from Producers Association, personal struggles

Sandra Thomas revealed that her expulsion from the Producers Association came after she spoke out about her bad experiences in the industry. She believes that B Unnikrishnan played a key role in her exclusion and has made it clear to others that he will not allow her to continue working in films. According to Sandra, Unnikrishnan’s repeated statements, both privately and publicly, about preventing her from making films have caused immense distress.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the Hema Committee report, Sandra noted that many had hoped it would lead to positive changes in the industry. However, she claims that instead of progress, there has been more intimidation and control, with people now fearing repercussions for speaking out. Sandra suggested that the ongoing dictatorship in the industry is preventing any meaningful change, as those who file complaints or question the status quo are often silenced or excluded.

While Sandra Thomas clarified that she harbours no personal animosity towards B Unnikrishnan, she expressed that there is a clear disconnect between his words and actions. Sandra added that the situation in Malayalam cinema has only worsened following the release of the Hema Committee report, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for anyone to speak out or challenge the powers.
