Kochi: A heated confrontation erupted during the Kerala Film Producers’ Association election meeting on Monday, as Malayalam producer Sandra Thomas challenged the rejection of her nomination, a moment captured in a viral video that is stirring controversy.

As the panel questioned her eligibility, Sandra abruptly stood up and confronted the office bearers, including producers B. Rajesh, G. Suresh Kumar, and others. Walking up to the podium, she defiantly said, “At least prove it by making a successful movie.”

When reminded of the bylaw requiring candidates to have produced at least three films, Sandra fired back, “I have several commercial successes. Contest and prove yourself. This is shameful.”

Sandra had submitted nominations for President, Executive Committee member, and Treasurer posts. While the association’s bylaws mandate producing a minimum of three films to qualify, Sandra argued her eligibility, citing seven co-productions under Friday Film House and two independent productions.

She insisted that since the films bore her name on the censor certificates, they should count toward her eligibility. “If the films are in my name, how can they not be considered mine?” she asked during the tense meeting.

The dispute escalated into a fiery verbal clash with senior producer and office-bearer Suresh Kumar, resulting in moments of high tension. Later, speaking to the media, Sandra accused the association of unlawful rejection of her nomination, alleging misuse of a returning officer whose appointment she called illegal.
