Samantha Ruth Prabhu, known for her trailblazing career choices, has taken a significant step toward gender equality in cinema through her debut production Bangaram under her banner Tralala Moving Pictures.
The film, directed by Nandini Reddy, has not only garnered attention for its first look but also for ensuring equal pay for all actors, regardless of gender.
The Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) recently hosted a panel discussion on gender equality in the film industry, where Nandini Reddy revealed Samantha’s progressive stance on pay parity.
"Samantha is producing our first film, and she told me there is pay parity—she made it a point that male and female actors are paid the same. I was so proud of her," said Nandini.
This move marks a major shift in an industry where pay gaps between male and female actors remain a persistent issue. Samantha’s efforts to promote inclusivity and fair compensation have been widely praised, signaling a positive change for women in the film industry.
Beyond the issue of pay disparity, Nandini Reddy also highlighted the unequal opportunities female directors face, stating that women filmmakers face twice the scrutiny as their male counterparts.
"Every release is a make-or-break moment for us. Our value is judged entirely by box office numbers. While a male director might need four years to establish himself, a female director often takes twice that time to gain the same level of recognition," she explained.
Apart from Bangaram, Samantha was last seen in Raj & DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny alongside Varun Dhawan. With her commitment to meaningful storytelling and industry reform, she continues to be a pioneering force in Indian cinema.
