Kochi: RSS mouthpiece Organiser continues its onslaught against the Mohanlal–Prithviraj film L2: Empuraan, alleging that it promotes hostility between communities. Since the release of the film, Organiser has been attacking it on a regular basis, criticising the people involved and alleging that it encourages anti-nationalism and communalism among the public.
In a byline article published on the magazine’s online edition titled "Empuraan Controversy: A Dangerous Trend", the film is criticised for allegedly fostering enmity between two religious groups. The article was published on Monday night around 8:30 PM.
It argues that the criticism against the film is not just due to its one-sided depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots. The latest article expresses concern that the movie sends a particular message targeted at a specific section of society. It claims that Empuraan dangerously intensifies enmity between two groups through a distorted and divisive narrative, and warns that events shown in the film could have real-world consequences.
The article further accuses the film of inciting violence and attacks against high-ranking political leaders and security officers. It claims the film justifies such acts in the name of revenge, fosters anti-government sentiment, and encourages extremist actions.
According to the article, the film misuses the logo of India’s premier anti-terror agency, the National Investigation Agency (NIA). It alleges that the portrayal of agencies like the NIA and Intelligence Bureau (IB) reflects the propaganda commonly spread by certain Islamist and leftist groups. The film justifies and glorifies terrorists, the article says.
There is also a claim in the article that the character played by Prithviraj Sukumaran in the film resembles both Sayyid Masood and Maulana Masood Azhar — raising the question of whether this resemblance is coincidental or part of a larger conspiracy.
The article extends its criticism to some previous films as well, such as Bheeshma Parvam and Mumbai Police, accusing them of portraying Navy officers in a bad light. It also claims that the film Unda promotes Maoism. Furthermore, it argues that Malayalam and Tamil films like Bheeshma Parvam promote drug use.
The article recalls a 2022 incident in which Kerala excise officials raided an apartment reportedly owned by Prithviraj Sukumaran and arrested an individual in possession of large quantities of drugs, including cocaine, LSD stamps and cannabis. Media reports said that the arrested man, Nujum Salim, was confirmed by authorities to have sourced the drugs from one of the state’s major suppliers.
