Lokah shatters records, becoming the top-grossing Malayalam film with ₹267 crore worldwide

'Lokah - Chapter One: Chandra', the seventh production venture from Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, has emerged as the latest blockbuster in Malayalam cinema. The film made history by grossing a staggering ₹267 crore worldwide within just 24 days of release, officially becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, surpassing the ₹242 crore collection of Empuraan.
The movie didn’t just set records in Kerala—it also made a significant impact across the Indian market. With over ₹150 crore collected from India alone (including ₹50+ crore from the rest of India outside Kerala), 'Lokah' is only the second Malayalam film ever to cross the ₹50 crore mark outside its home state.
A major milestone in Indian cinema, 'Lokah' is also now the highest-grossing South Indian film headlined by a female lead, redefining the landscape for women-centric storytelling in the industry.
Directed by Dominic Arun and inspired by the legend of Kalliyankattu Neeli, the film captivated audiences with its rich storytelling, stunning visuals, and grand world-building. Set in a mythical universe, the film introduced a high-concept fantasy narrative never before attempted in Malayalam cinema.
Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen lead the cast in this visually spectacular epic, which also features Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian, Sarath Sabha, Nishanth Sagar, and Vijayaraghavan in key roles. The production quality, visual effects, and immersive soundtrack elevated the experience, drawing comparisons to international fantasy blockbusters.
The film's cinematic impact was further boosted by thrilling cameo appearances from Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas, and the mysterious, unseen presence of Mammootty as the enigmatic character Moothon. These elements added layers of intrigue and intensity, setting the stage for an ambitious five-part fantasy cinematic universe—another first for Malayalam cinema.
