Bollywood actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav surrendered at Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 4, 2026, to serve a six-month sentence in a decade-old cheque bounce case and his emotional words outside the jail have left fans shaken.

Moments before custody, a visibly distressed Yadav reportedly told reporters, “Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta… Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain. (Sir what can I do? I don't have money. I can't even find an alternate way...Sir, we are all alone.) There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.” The statement captured not just his legal crisis, but a deep sense of isolation that resonated widely across social media.

Why is Rajpal Yadav jailed?

Yadav’s legal troubles date back to 2010, when he borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s commercial failure left him unable to repay the loan. Multiple cheques issued later bounced, leading to cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Over 15 years, the liability reportedly rose to nearly ₹9 crore with interest and penalties. Although Yadav deposited ₹75 lakh in 2025, the Delhi High Court said most of the dues remained unpaid and dismissed his final plea for more time. Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma noted that the actor had made nearly 20 promises to settle the matter but failed to follow through.

Following the court order, Yadav reached Tihar Jail around 4 pm to begin his sentence.

Sonu Sood’s emotional appeal: ‘This is about dignity, not charity”

Actor Sonu Sood posted a heartfelt message on his social media accounts, calling on the film industry to stand by Rajpal Yadav during his darkest hour.

“Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal,” Sood wrote.

He added, “He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together. A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity.”

Sood ended his note by saying, “When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry.”

The emotional post has since sparked conversations across Bollywood, with fans and insiders calling for solidarity for the actor best known for his iconic performances in Chup Chup Ke, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Hera Pheri.
