
Malayalam actors Mammootty and Mohanlal have extended their support to Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat in the wake of her Olympic setback.
Mammootty took to Facebook to say, "Heartbreaking to hear about Vinesh Phogat's disqualification.She remains a true champion in the hearts of millions. Her resilience, dedication, and achievements will continue to inspire us all. Proud of you, Vinesh, and we stand by you in every challenge that awaits ..”

Several other Indian film stars have also come together to express their support and respect for Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the 50 kg women's wrestling event at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday. Despite the devastating setback, Phogat has found comfort in the encouragement from fellow Indians.
Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu posted a photo of Phogat in the ring, accompanied by a heartfelt message. Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, actors Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar, and Rakul Preet Singh also shared their sentiments via Instagram.
Taking to her Instagram handle, Zoya Akhtar hailed Vinesh Phogat as a champion and sent an empowering message for her despite the setback.
In the 2024 Paris Olympics, Vinesh pulled off against Japan's Yui Susaki, a three-time world champion, in the opening round. She went on to defeat Ukraine's Oksana Livach and Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman, becoming the first Indian woman to reach an Olympic final in wrestling. However, her dream of gold was shattered once again when she was disqualified for being overweight by 100 grams during the weigh-in for the final.
