Malayalam star Mammootty expressed his gratitude to audiences after his latest film, Kalamkaval, reported solid early box office numbers.

Sharing a post on X, the actor wrote that the last two days had been “nothing short of overwhelming” and thanked viewers for the trust they placed in his choices. The post came as the film completed two days in cinemas following its release on 5 December 2025.

According to early estimates from box office tracking platform Sacnilk, the crime thriller has earned around ₹10.25 crore net in India across its first two days. The film opened to an estimated ₹5 crore on Friday. Collections saw a marginal rise on Saturday, with Day 2 earnings touching about ₹5.25 crore. These figures are provisional and await final confirmation. Sunday, traditionally a stronger day for theatres, is expected to provide more clarity on the film’s opening weekend performance.

Kalamkaval marks the directorial debut of Jithin K. Jose, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jishnu Sreekumar. The film is produced under the Mammootty Kampany banner, with George Sebastian serving as executive producer. The cast includes Mammootty and Vinayakan in the lead, supported by Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, Rajisha Vijayan and Shruti Ramachandran.

Set in early-2000s Kerala, the narrative follows Officer Jayakrishnan, who begins investigating a local communal clash. What starts as a routine inquiry develops into a wider probe involving a disturbing pattern of missing women. The film traces how these events connect as the officer uncovers deeper layers behind the incidents.

The technical team includes cinematographer Faisal Ali, editor Praveen Prabhakar and composer Mujeeb Majeed. The final sound mix was handled by M.R. Rajakrishnan, while production design was overseen by Shajie Naduvil. Action sequences were choreographed by Action Santhosh, and VFX work was managed by Vishwa Fx under the supervision of S. Santhosh Raju. Wayfarer Films is distributing the film in Kerala, with overseas distribution handled by Truth Global Films.

Kalamkaval’s box office trend continues to be closely watched, with Day 3 numbers expected to offer a firmer indication of its opening weekend trajectory. The film’s hold during the weekdays will determine its long-term performance across Kerala and other key centres.
