New Delhi: Air India and Air India Express have confirmed that they are ensuring compliance with the latest airfare cap directive issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Since December 4, both carriers have proactively capped economy-class fares on non-stop domestic flights, overriding the usual demand–supply dynamics applied by automated revenue management systems. The move aims to ease travel disruptions and provide fair pricing to passengers across India.

“In view of the widespread disruptions that travellers across India are currently experiencing, Air India and Air India Express announce a series of proactive measures to help those stranded reach their destinations,” the airlines said in a statement.

Change and cancellation fee waiver for domestic flights

To offer greater flexibility, the airlines have introduced a special one-time waiver of change or cancellation fees on eligible domestic bookings. Passengers who booked flights until December 4 for travel up to December 15 can reschedule without paying rescheduling fees or cancel their bookings for a full refund, subject to ticket validity. The waiver is valid until December 8.

Passengers are advised that fare differences, if any, will apply when rescheduling bookings. Rescheduling or cancellation can be done via the airlines’ 24x7 contact centres or through travel agents worldwide. Additional resources have been deployed at contact centres to reduce response times amid high call volumes.

Maximising seat availability and operational flexibility

Air India and Air India Express are maximising seat availability across their domestic and international networks. Wherever operationally feasible, eligible Economy Class passengers may be upgraded to higher cabins at no extra cost to ensure optimal utilisation of available seats. Both carriers are also operating additional flights on key routes to expedite travel and baggage delivery for stranded passengers.

Special discounts and benefits

The airlines continue to provide special discounted fares and benefits on their official websites and mobile apps for students, senior citizens, members of the armed forces, and their dependents, reinforcing their commitment to passenger convenience and accessibility.
