JioHotstar is set to launch its new Malayalam series Pharma, led by Mollywood superstar Nivin Pauly, on December 19. The streaming platform confirmed the premiere date on Friday as it unveiled the show’s official trailer. The drama marks Nivin’s debut in the web-series format, with the actor portraying a medical salesman at the centre of a narrative inspired by multiple real-life incidents.

Written and directed by PR Arun, Pharma assembles an extensive ensemble cast including Rajit Kapur, Binu Pappu, Narain, Shruti Ramachandran and Veena Nandakumar.

The series is produced by Krishnan Sethukumar, whose previous credits include Unda, Ivide and James and Alice. Billed as a gripping medical-industry drama, Pharma promises a blend of personal conflict and systemic revelations as it ventures into the ethically fraught world of pharmaceutical sales.

Apart from the series, Nivin also has a number of films gearing up for theatrical release, the latest being Sarvam Maya, directed by Akhil Satyan. The actor’s legion of fans is expecting him to make a strong comeback to the big screen after a brief hiatus. (With inputs from Agencies)
