The narrative follows a tight-knit group of friends whose mundane lives are upended by the arrival of five uninvited, time-travelling spirits.

The Malayalam film industry is venturing into uncharted territory as superstar Mohanlal officially launched the teaser for Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian’s latest venture, Karakkam. Billed as Kerala’s first-ever musical horror comedy, the film has already generated massive interest among cinephiles for its unique, genre-bending approach.
A hauntingly hilarious premise
The teaser suggests a film that refuses to stay in one lane. The narrative follows a tight-knit group of friends whose mundane lives are upended by the arrival of five uninvited, time-travelling spirits.
Rather than a traditional jump-scare fest, Karakkam leans into "high-energy chaos." The teaser showcases a frantic pursuit where the protagonists are chased by these entities—ghosts who seem to carry as much mischief as they do menace. The characters’ reactions, ranging from sheer terror to bewildered comedy, suggest a ride that is as funny as it is eerie.
The film is produced under the banners of Krownstars Entertainment and Black Turtle Productions,
Powerhouse talent behind the scenes
The project boasts a formidable creative team:
Direction: Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian (of Charles Enterprises fame) leads the ship.
Music: South Indian maestro Sam C. S. is composing both the songs and the background score, a crucial element for a "musical" horror.
Cast: An ensemble cast featuring Sreenath Bhasi, Femina George, Sidharth Bharathan, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Shaun Romy, Bijukuttan, Manikandan R. Achary and Midhutty promise grounded yet spirited performances.
Writing: A collaborative script by Nipin Narayanan, Arjun Narayanan, and the director, based on a story by Dhanush Varghese.
Building momentum
The buzz for Karakkam has been building steadily since Prithviraj Sukumaran shared the first-look poster. With cinematography by Bablu Aju and lyrics from a "dream team" including Anwar Ali, Muhsin Parari, Vinayak Sasikumar, Muhsin Parari and Hareesh Mohanan the film appears to be a polished, technical marvel.
As the teaser balances its unsettling atmosphere with moments of levity, Karakkam looks set to be the "chaotic ride" Malayalam cinema-goers didn't know they were waiting for. Producers Ankush Singh and Kimberly Trinidade have taken up a project that aims to haunt the charts and the funny bone in equal measure.
