Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has decisively shut down speculation about entering politics, responding with a polite but firm "never" to a public appeal from civil society activists urging him to become Punjab's "new face" in leadership.

The appeal originated in a recent Punjabi Tribune article titled "Can Diljit Dosanjh be the new political face of Punjab?" It highlighted efforts by Jaago Punjab Manch, a group comprising retired Army personnel, bureaucrats, and diverse professionals led by retired bureaucrat SS Boparai. They see Dosanjh's non-partisan stance, global appeal, and recent vocal positions on Sikh issues as ideal for tackling Punjab's challenges like cash shortages and drug problems.

Dosanjh, who has built a reputation as a cultural ambassador rather than a politician, replied directly on social media: "Kadey v Nhi... Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. (Never. My job is to entertain) Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much."

Fans praised his choice, with one commenting, "Thank you! Don't waste your life's purpose chasing politics. You will lose yourself in that dirty space," and another simply noting, "Good reply."

Dosanjh's Apolitical Stance

Despite his massive influence, Dosanjh has consistently avoided partisan politics. He supported the 2020-21 farmers' protests without endorsing any party, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann last year, and recently distanced himself from separatist elements.

At a Canada concert, he confronted pro-Khalistani protesters waving flags, declaring, "If you still have an issue that I sat across someone on television... jinne jhande dikhane dilkhai challo (then keep waving how many flags you want to)."

On Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show, he reflected on Punjabi immigrants' journey, referencing the 1914 Komagata Maru incident near Vancouver's stadium where he performed for 55,000 fans: "That stadium is just two kilometres away... you didn't allow us to come. And now, here we are, man."

His image as a "desi boy" shines through in moments like his Met Gala appearance in a Maharaja necklace and Punjabi-script cape, reinforcing his non-political, Punjabi pride.

Dosanjh's career thrives: He starred in 2025's Sardaar Ji 3 and this year's Border 2, with Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga upcoming alongside Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, and Naseeruddin Shah.
