Vijay's ‘Jana Nayagan’ is ahead of its July 23 release, with one major difference setting it apart from the actor's previous films, tickets in Tamil Nadu will not be sold above the government-approved price of Rs 190.

According to industry sources, Vijay, now serving as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has instructed his team to ensure there are no pricing controversies surrounding his final film. Theatres across the state are expected to be monitored closely to prevent ticket sales above the fixed rate, a practice that has often been reported during the release of big-star films.

Advance bookings have opened strongly overseas, with ‘Jana Nayagan’ crossing Rs 4 crore in worldwide advance sales as of July 16, according to Sacnilk. In India, Bengaluru became the first city to begin bookings, where several early morning shows are already nearing houseful status. While shows in other South Indian states will begin from 6 am, the first screenings in Tamil Nadu will start at 9 am.

Speaking about the release, Tamil film financier and distributor Tiruppur Subramaniam said the fixed pricing policy leaves no room for premium ticket rates in the state.

"Unlike Karnataka and some other states where flexible pricing allows tickets to be sold for Rs 800 to Rs 1,000, Tamil Nadu has a fixed ticket price of Rs 190. That is the rate at which Jana Nayagan tickets will be sold. Given Vijay's popularity and his position as Chief Minister, we expect an excellent opening," he said.

Another producer, requesting anonymity, also revealed that Vijay fan clubs are not expected to purchase tickets in bulk for resale at inflated prices. Instead, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is likely to distribute tickets to party members without profiteering, in line with Vijay's instructions.

Outside Tamil Nadu, the film is gearing up for a wide release. Distributor Pankaj Jaysinh said ‘Jana Nayagan’ will release in around 1,500 to 2,000 theatres across North India, driven by strong demand and the curiosity surrounding Vijay's first release after becoming Chief Minister. Several Tamil-dominated centres in Mumbai have even scheduled 4 am shows.

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. One of the biggest talking points ahead of release is that the opening title card is expected to introduce Vijay as "The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay."
