‘Some people even call me an over-actor. And many might agree with that. But I stick to the lessons I learned from Bala sir,’ he adds.

Tamil superstar Suriya has humbly stated that he doesn’t consider himself a great actor and that he cannot perform like his brother Karthi. He made the remark during a promotional interview for his latest film Retro, which is receiving a positive response in theatres.
Speaking during a ‘Rectangle Table Discussion’ alongside director Karthik Subbaraj and music composer Santhosh Narayanan, Suriya opened up about his own limitations as an actor.
“I’m not a great actor. Some people even call me an over-actor. And many might agree with that. But I stick to the lessons I learned from Bala sir. I try to give my best, but it doesn’t always work. I make a sincere effort. Look, if someone makes a film like ‘Meiyazhagan’, I cannot be Karthi. I can’t do Meiyazhagan,” Suriya said.
Meiyazhagan was a critically acclaimed film produced under the banner of 2D Entertainment, jointly by Suriya and his wife Jyothika. It starred Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles and received widespread praise.
Karthik Subbaraj and Suriya’s gangster-period film Retro is also earning strong reviews, collecting ₹41.35 crore in just four days. Suriya’s next production venture is being directed by RJ Balaji. Tentatively titled Suriya 45, the film is expected to release during Deepavali. Meanwhile, Karthi’s Sardar 2 is also slated for release around the same time.
