Veteran Malayalam actor Zeenath, who has stolen the hearts of cinephiles with several memorable roles, candidly opened up about her experiences of being sidelined in the film industry during a recent conversation with One 2 Talks.

The seasoned actor disclosed that some opportunities were intentionally taken away from her. “There were films I was considered for, but someone else ended up doing them. Even when the director said he wanted me, I was not called. I don’t know who made those decisions, but it caused deep sorrow.”

Without naming names, Zeenath criticised certain actors and insiders who, she claims, influenced directors to remove her from projects. “There’s one actor I know very well. I confronted him and told him, ‘What you’re doing is very wrong and disgusting.’ He didn’t expect that. These things didn’t happen just once — it’s happened even in recent years,” she said.

Speaking to YouTube channel, Zeenath also revealed that she had, on occasion, walked out of film sets after feeling disrespected or disregarded. “I don’t prioritise money — I prioritise respect,” she said. “If we aren’t given the consideration we deserve, it’s very difficult to remain in such spaces.”

She recounted an incident that took place several years ago on the set of a film directed by Vinayan. “I walked out of the location because I was deeply upset. The room for me wasn’t arranged properly, and I had no space to even sit,” she recollected.

She later called Vinayan to discuss the incident. Years later, when they met again, they shared a pleasant conversation and even discussed working together. “Sir kind of offered me a role in Chalakkudykkaran Changathy, but due to some reasons, I didn’t get it,” she added.

The interview highlighted not only the charming and grounded side of her personality but also the ongoing struggles for dignity and visibility in an industry she has long served with dedication.
